The Canvas Learning Management platform allows for faculty and students to find everything they need in one place. To help get you oriented to Canvas please refer to our Canvas101 courses (Faculty | Students). Inside you will find instructions, links, and videos with YCP in mind.

In addition to our assistance on campus, we have 24/7 support from Canvas. To access after-hours support, click the Help button on the left side, green navigation bar in Canvas.
Canvas has two main course communication tools, Canvas Announcements and Canvas Inbox (Faculty | Students). It is important when in non-face to face course situations that you check your Email Notifications to make sure you do not miss any important emails (Faculty | Students)!
Faculty are able to send messages to the entire class through announcements. Canvas Announcements will email the students (a copy will go to their YCP Gmail) and include a copy of the announcement on your course site.
Both faculty and students can communicate through the Canvas Inbox. The Canvas Inbox can be used to email individuals or the entire class. A copy of all messages sent to Canvas Inbox will also appear in your YCP Gmail account.
Canvas Quizzes is a feature that allows instructors to author multiple-choice and open-ended questions fairly easily. It also allows support for both matching and fills in the blank question types. The options available within Quizzes allow control over when a quiz is available and what is released (Faculty | Students).
The Files area in Canvas provides a place for storing all course materials. Add files such as documents, PDFs, slides, or spreadsheets.
- Learn more about Files.
- Make sure all of your uploaded files are available for your students to view in the Modules section. If your files are available and published in the modules section “hide” the Files link on the Left Navigation so students view your files in the Modules as needed instead of all at once in the files section.
- Learn how to organize files and do bulk uploads.
Google Collaborations is one of several Google integrations in Canvas. Collaborations are also available through the Collaborations link on your left-hand navigation. Collaborations are an easy way to keep your Google Docs within the course structure and can be shared with one, some, or all students in a course, and options include Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
