Library - Find a Book

Schmidt Library has a books in the building. These books are arranged by the Library of Congress method. The instructions below will help you to locate the materials that you need.

Step 1: Look Book up in the Schmidt Library Catalog

Step : Find the Book in the Results

Indicates what to look for in a search

Step 3: Record the Call Number

(ex: Moby Dick = Call Number: PS2384 .M6 1949)

Note: The Call number will be on the spine of the book in a vertical layout.

Step 5: Locate the Section

The Library stacks of Books are grouped by the Letter designation on the call numbers

Books are arranged by Library of Congress Subjects: https://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/lcco/

If you have an oversized book the call number will list "Oversized" and will be located after Z on the shelves.

Step 6: Locate the Book

Use the Call Number to locate the book on the shelf by working from the top to the bottom, each line at a time.

Step 7: Checkout the Book

Once you have the book, stop by the LTS Help Desk to check it out.
