Print a poster

Enrolled students and active employees may order posters for pickup from the Schmidt Library.

  • Cost: 40¢ per inch of poster length*

  • Production time: 2 business days

Note: If you want to print anything 11x17 inches or smaller, on standard paper, follow our regular print instructions instead.

*Calculate your poster cost

y × .40 = cost

If both dimensions are 42 inches or shorter

  • Then y = The length of your poster's shortest dimension.

  • Example: A 10x42 inch poster costs $4.

  • Tip: This tends to cost significantly less than if either dimension is longer than 42 inches.

If either dimension is longer than 42 inches

  • Then y = The length of your poster's longest dimension.

  • Example: A 10x43 inch poster costs $17.20.

  • Caution: At least one dimension must be 42 inches or shorter, due to our printer size.

Popular poster sizes

We can print your poster in many custom dimensions. However, if you want it to fit in a standard poster frame, it's wise to stick with popular US poster sizes (all are in inches).

Prepare your poster file

You must submit your image as a precisely-sized PDF file.

Printing multiple posters at once?

Often, you can save a significant amount of poster cost by arranging multiple images within the same PDF page.

Remember: Including any space you leave between or around the images, one of their combined dimensions cannot exceed 42 inches.

If you have any questions or don't know how to do this, contact us for help.

Using an Adobe application?

If you're creating your image file in an Adobe application, you should be able to export it as and appropriately sized PDF, with exact dimensions.

If you don't know how, either contact your professor or follow the 2 steps below instead.

Step 1: Convert your image to PDF

If your image is not already a .pdf file,

  • Visit i.ycp.edu/converttopdf.

  • Select Choose File.

  • Find & open your image file.

  • After it finishes loading, take note of the file size (KB or MB).

    • If it is larger than 100MB, then you will either need to resize it while following Step 2 or contact us to submit it another way.

  • Select Download.

Step 2: Find or alter the PDF size

  • Visit i.ycp.edu/resizepdf.

  • Select Choose File.

  • Find & open your image PDF file.

  • After it finishes loading, select Inches and Keep aspect ratio.

  • Now you can see the width (left) and height (right) of your PDF.

    • Note: This will be the size of your poster.

    • Caution: At least one of the two numbers should be 42 inches or smaller, otherwise some of your image may not print. The other number may be as large as 72 inches (6 feet).

If you're satisfied with the image size

  • Take note of the width and height.

    • You will need them later.

  • Proceed to Place your poster order, using the image PDF file that you already have.

If you want to resize the image

  • Change either the width or height number.

  • Take note of the width and height.

    • You will need them later.

  • Select Resize.

  • After it finishes, take note of the file size (KB or MB).

    • If it is larger than 100MB and you cannot reduce the size any further, please contact us to submit it another way.

  • Select Download.

    • Make sure to use this file when you Place your poster order.

Caution: We don't recommend increasing the size of your image. It will make a larger poster, but will compromise the image quality, making it look blocky or fuzzy.

Place your poster order

Note: In the form, make sure to enter two dimensions that are exactly the same as your image (the numbers as you took note of in Step 2 ).

Caution: If your PDF file is larger than 100MB, the form will not accept it. Please contact us to submit it another way.

Pay for & pickup your poster

We'll send you an email when your poster is complete. Then, visit us at the LTS Help Desk, in the Schmidt Library, to pay and pick it up.

Note

  • We can only accept flex payment.

  • Your poster will not be trimmed, so will likely have some white space around the image. We have a poster trimmer in the Library that you're welcome to use; if you need any help, ask us at the Help Desk.
